Abstract

Abstract In a thermopile composed of a plurality of parallel-oriented, elongated, small cross section bismuth tellurium elements with insulation therebetween arrayed together to define a block having end surfaces in which are exposed the ends of each of the elements and the insulation therebetween with electrical interconnections between selected pairs of said elements to place all of said elements in series, and a pair of terminals for the thermopile, the improvement comprising said electrical interconnections being in the form of wires or straps bent over at their ends with the bent-over ends alloyed into said ends of said elements and with the straight central portions of the wires extending between the elements slightly raised above their end surfaces.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 15 words
A thermopile as in claim 1 wherein said semiconductor elements are about 15 mils square.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 59 words
A thermopile according to claim 1 wherein said semiconductor elements are made from a material selected from the group consisting of Bi2Te3, Sb2Te3, Bi2Se3, Sb2Se3, and solid solutions and alloys thereof, and further wherein said straps are made from a material selected from the group consisting of palladium, gold, silver, platinum, nickel and various alloys and coated combinations thereof.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 44 words
A thermopile according to claim 1 wherein said semiconductor elements are so connected that they form a single series electrical circuit, said thermopile further including a terminal wire attached by weld brazing to the semiconductor elements at each end of said series electrical circuit.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 59 words
A thermopile according to claim 4 wherein said semiconductor elements are made from a material selected from the group consisting of Bi2Te3, Sb2Te3, Bi2Se3, Sb2Se2 and solid solutions and alloys thereof and further wherein said terminal wires are made from materials selected from a group consisting of palladium, gold, silver, platinum, nickel and various alloys and coated combinations thereof.
