Abstract

Abstract An article such as a collar having a setscrew for enabling securing the collar on a shaft member which is telescopically received in an opening of the collar characterized by the collar having a pair of cavities with one cavity in communication with the opening and extending from one end and the other cavity extending from the opposite end and in communication with an outer surface of the collar. Each of the cavities terminates in a partial annular threaded segment which segment coacts to form an opening having interrupted threads to receive a setscrew. The threads on each of the annular segments extends transversely to a direction of application of pressure when forming the collar such as by compacting metal powder which is subsequently sintered.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 88 words
An article adapted for mounting on a member and detachably secured thereon by a threaded element comprising a one-piece body having a first opening extending inwardly from one surface for receiving the member and having a second opening extending from the first opening at an angle thereto, said second opening having threaded segments of a partial annular configuration, said segments being axially offset from each other along an axis of the second opening and coacting to provide the second opening with interrupted threads for receiving a threaded element.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 88 words
An article adapted for mounting on a member and detachably secured thereon by a threaded element comprising a one-piece body having a first opening extending inwardly from one surface for receiving the member and having a second opening extending from the first opening at an angle thereto, said second opening having threaded segments of a partial annular configuration, said segments being axially offset from each other along an axis of the second opening and coacting to provide the second opening with interrupted threads for receiving a threaded element.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 56 words
An article according to claim 1, wherein each of the segments is on an end wall of a cavity extending axially towards a surface of the body with adjacent cavities extending in opposite directions, said cavities overlapping each other at the end wall so that a threaded element can be threadably received in the second opening.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 65 words
An article according to claim 2, wherein the second opening has two segments, and each of the two cavities has a bottom wall, one of the two cavities is open to an outer surface of the article and the other of the two cavities is in communication with the first opening with the bottom walls of the two cavities lying substantially in the same plane.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 46 words
An article according to claim 3, wherein each of the annular segments comprises a portion of the end wall of its respective cavity and the remaining portion of the end walls of each cavity lies on a plane passing through the axis of the second opening.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 51 words
An article according to claim 3, wherein the one-piece body is formed of compacted and sintered metal powder, and wherein the axis of the second opening extends transversely to the direction of pressure applied during compacting of the metal powders so that the entire body is shaped during the compacting process.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 174 words
An article adapted for mounting on a member and detachably secured thereon by a threaded element comprising a one-piece body of compacted metal powder having a first opening extending axially therethrough for telescopically receiving the member, and a pair of extending cavities each having an end wall and a bottom wall, one of said pair of cavities being in communication with the first opening and extending inwardly from one end surface and the other of the pair of cavities extending inwardly from the other end surface and being opened to the exterior surface of the article, each of said end walls of the cavities having at least a partial annular segment provided with threads, said pair of cavities having a depth so that both bottom walls lie on substantially the same plane and a length so that both annular segments overlap and coact to define a second opening extending from the first opening at an angle, said second opening having interrupted threads provided by the offset annular segments for threadably receiving a threaded element.
