Abstract
Abstract A system for continuously preparing a carbonated product and filling containers. Carbon dioxide is applied to a liquid under carbonating pressure and the carbonated liquid is passed to a stabilizing tank maintained at a pressure at least equal to carbonating pressure. Thereafter, the liquid is directed to a pressure reduction tank in which the pressure is lowered to a level just sufficient to produce the desired flow rate to the filler. By reducing the pressure prior to filling, a filler of the gravity or vacuum type may be employed without excessive foaming. Or, if a counter pressure filler is employed, operating pressure is considerably lowered.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
149 words
In a continuous method for preparing a carbonated product and for filling containers with the same, the steps of: a. injecting carbon dioxide into a liquid in a carbonating zone to form a carbonated product; b. stabilizing the carbonated product by holding the same in a stabilizing tank with a head pressure at least equal to the carbonating pressure; c. passing the carbonated product from the stabilizing tank into a pressure reduction tank in which the head pressure is lowered to a level substantially below carbonating pressure, and holding the product for sufficient time to stabilize the same at the last named pressure; and d. passing the carbonated product from the pressure reduction tank directly to a filler and dispensing the product into containers at a selected pressure below carbonating pressure so that the product pressure to the filler is determined by the pressure in the pressure reduction tank.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
53 words
A method as in claim 1 in which gaseous head pressure of the containers in filling step (d) is at a level no greater than atmospheric and the head pressure in the pressure reduction tank exceeds said container pressure by an amount just sufficient to achieve the desired flow rate into the containers.
