Abstract TITANIUM AND REFRACTORY METALS AND THEIR ALLOYS ARE REMOVED FROM TOOLS, USUALLY MADE FROM STEEL OR CARBIDES, WITHOUT DELECTERIOUS EFFECTS ON THE TOOL BY IMMERSING THE COATED TOOL IN AN ACIDIC SOLUTION INCLUDING FLUORIDE IONS, WATER, A SOURCE OF COOH RADICAL, SUCH AS FORMIC, OXALIC, OR TARTARIC ACID, AND A CORROSION INHIBITOR, SUCH AS TRIETHANOLAMINE, POTASSIUM IODIDE, OR SODIUM NITRITE.
