A method for shrinking a collar on a shaft having a shoulder comprising the steps of: a. providing a collar having an inside diameter less than the outside diameter of said shaft, b. heating said collar, c. placing said heated collar onto said shaft, d. applying pressure to one end of said collar to force the other end of said collar against said shoulder, and e. cooling said collar while maintaining said pressure.
