Abstract

Abstract Described is a control circuit for the application of direct current electrical energy to the winding of a variable reluctance motor. Brushless operation of the variable reluctance motor is achieved with a capacitor connected in series with the motor winding. A first solid state switching device is connected in parallel with the series combination of the capacitor and motor winding, and a second solid state switching device is connected in series with this parallel combination. A source of electrical energy is connected across the above described elements. A third solid state switching device may be connected in antiparallel with the second solid state switching device. The controller may be used to supply substantially pure half-sine waves to the motor winding.
