Abstract
Abstract One end of a tubing, e.g., a catheter, is inserted into a patient''s bladder, and the other end connected to a urine collection receptacle. At least a portion of the tubing has a degree of limpness such that it normally assumes a flat collapsed condition. As a result, a column of urine cannot remain in the tubing.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim
106 words
A method of draining urine from a patient''s bladder into a receptacle, comprising the steps of providing a tubing having means at one end to permit introduction of urine into the tubing, at least a portion of the length of the tubing being formed of material having a degree of limpness such that the tubing portion is not self-supporting and cannot by itself maintain any preselected cross-sectional shape and therefore normally assumes a flat collapsed condition in which its walls lie against each other, inserting said one end of the tubing into the patient''s bladder, and connecting the opposite end of the tubing to a receptacle.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
38 words
A method as defined in claim 1 wherein said tubing includes a drainage tube connected to the drainage receptacle, and a catheter connected to the drainage tube, the catheter being inserted through the patient''s urethra into his bladder.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
18 words
A method as defined in claim 2 wherein only the drainage tube is formed of said limp material.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
20 words
A method as defined in claim 2 wherein said drainage tube and catheter are both formed of said limp material.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
34 words
A method as defined in claim 4 wherein the portion of the catheter adjacent to the end which is inserted into the patient''s urethra is formed of a material stiffer than said limp material.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
15 words
A method as defined in claim 4 wherein said catheter and drainage tube are integral.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
28 words
A method as defined in claim 1 including an outer sheath resistant to radial compression surrounding at least a portion of the length of said limp tubing portion.
