Abstract

Abstract A ribbon mechanism for cartridge supported ribbons includes a gear train which is clutch operated in response to typing actuations and which provides incremental rotation to two independent cartridge-type ribbon driving means for feeding a ribbon past the machine print point. The two independent driving means are coaxially mounted and are driven in opposite directions thus accomplishing both a feed means and a takeup means for either a cartridge having an endless ribbon system supported therein or a cartridge having a two spool ribbon system support therein.
