Abstract LAYERS OF HYDROPHILIC POLYMERS OF GLYCOL ACRYLATES AND METHACRYLATES, WHICH SWELL AND SHRINK UNDER VARYING AMBIENT HUMIDITY, ARE FIRMLY BONDED TO DIMENSIONALLY STABLE SUBSTRATES BY AN INTERPOSE PRIMER FILM OF MIXTURES OR COPOLYMERS OF THE SAME MATERIALS WITH HYDROPHOBIC CONSTITUENTS, THE LATTER BEING PRESENT IN A SUFFICIENT AMOUNT TO REDUCE THE MOISTURE-INDUCED SWELLING AND SHRINKING OF THE PRIMER TO LESS THAN THAT OF THE HYDROPHILIC POLYMER.
