Abstract THE SPECIFICATION DESCRIBES A VARIABLE SPEED HYDRAULICALLY OPERATED TRANSMISSION FOR AN AUTOMATIVE VEHICLE INCLUDING THREE EPICYCLIC GEAR SETS. CONTROL OF GEAR CHANGE IS EFFECTED BY HYDRAULICALLY OPERATED BRAKES AND CLUTCHES. MOST OF THE COMPONENTS OF THE BRAKES AND CLUTCHES ARE FORMED AS STEEL PRESSINGS. THIS REDUCES THE BULK WEIGHT AND COST OF THE TRANSMISSION.
