Abstract To record the number of occurrences of a recurring event, such as pulsebeat, as well as its cadence relative to a more slowly recurring reference signal, which may be the output of a timer or an indication of some other more or less periodic occurrence (such as the downtread of a pedaling cyclist), a character key of a typewriter is depressed to print a mark upon occurrence of the event whereas a line-feed and carriage-return mechanism is actuated in response to the reference signal so that the number of events per measuring cycle-or, if desired, the number of recurrences per cycle exceeding a predetermined minimum-can be read directly on an individual line of the typewriter sheet. Electric pulses registering the recurring event and the pacemaker signal may also be stored on a recording medium, such as a magnetic tape, for later transmission to the control circuit of an electric typewriter operating in the aforedescribed manner.
A method of recording the number and cadence of occurrences of a recurring event by means of a typewriter having character keys and a combination line-feed and carriage-return mechanism, comprising the steps of inserting a recordinG sheet into said typewriter, operating said mechanism in the rhythm of a reference signal recurring at a substantially slower rate than said event, and actuating a character key of the typewriter upon each occurrence of said event beyond a predetermined number of such occurrences in any interval between successive reference signals.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
87 words
A method of recording the number and cadence of occurrences of a recurring event by means of a typewriter having character keys and a combination line-feed and carriage-return mechanism, comprising the steps of inserting a recordinG sheet into said typewriter, operating said mechanism in the rhythm of a reference signal recurring at a substantially slower rate than said event, and actuating a character key of the typewriter upon each occurrence of said event beyond a predetermined number of such occurrences in any interval between successive reference signals.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
42 words
A method as defined in claim 1, comprising the further steps of storing, on a recording medium, pulses representing the occurrences of said event and subsequently actuating said character key in response to pulses reproduced by a playback of said recording medium.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
21 words
A method as defined in claim 2 wherein said reference signal is stored together with said pulses on said recording medium.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
76 words
A method as defined in claim 2 herein said event is the pulsebeat of a living subject, further comprising the steps of measuring the rate of said pulses during recording thereof on said medium, taking motion pictures of said subject upon the rate so measured exceeding a predetermined threshold, subsequently measuring the rate of the reproduced pulses during playback, and reproducing said motion pictures upon the last-mentioned rate exceeding a threshold related to the first-mentioned threshold.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
28 words
A method as defined in claim 1 wherein said event is the pulsebeat of a living subject, said reference signal having derived from an activity of said subject.
