Abstract DISCLOSED HEREIN ARE METHODS FOR PRODUCING BICYCLIC ORTHO ESTERS AND THEIR ISOMERS, OXETANE ESTERS. BICYCLIC ORTHO ESTERS ARE PREPARED BY DIRECT ESTERIFICATION OF TRIMETHYLOALKANES WITH CERTAIN MONOCARBOXYLIC ACIDS. THE BICYCLIC ORTHO ESTER CAN BE CONVERTED TO THE OXETANE ISOMER BY HEATING AT A TEMPERATURE OF FROM 275*C. TO 525*C. IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ALUMINA ISOMERIZATION CATALYST.
