Abstract

Abstract A mechanical and electrical joint is obtained between copper and aluminum members by utilizing a tin-plated copper member having a portion formed in a tubular shape with a plurality of chamfered holes made in such tubular portion. Aluminum material to be joined to the copper member is formed with a tubular end which is inserted into the tubular portion of the copper member. Heat and pressure are applied to the tubular portion of the copper member until the aluminum melts and flows out of the chamfered holes forming a strong mechanical lock with good electrical characteristics.
