Production of gamma-alumina having superior heat stability
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the titled gamma-alumina having small rate of reduction of specific surface area when it is heated at high temp., having superior heat stability being useful in the field of surface chemistry such as catalyst, sensor, etc., by calcining gamma-alumina after supporting metal salt such as salt of Ce, La, Sr, Ba, or Y, etc. CONSTITUTION:1-10wt% at least one water-soluble metal salt [expressed in terms of oxide of the metal(s)] selected from salts of Ce, La, Sr, Ba, and Y is supported on gamma-alumina powder having >=100m<2>/g BET specific surface area and <=25mu mean particle size charged in a mixing vessel installed with a stirrer by adding aq. soln. of said metal salt(s) portionwise during stirring, or by dipping the gamma-alumina powder in the aq. soln. of the metal salt(s). The treated gamma-alumina powder is then dried and calcined at 500-700 deg.C.
