Crosslinked medical material
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a crosslinked medical material useful as artificial blood vessel, artificial skin, etc., having proper strength and flexibility and improved biocompatibility, by immersing a high polymer material having biocompatibility in a solution of a polyepoxy compound and crosslinking the material. CONSTITUTION:A natural high polymer material (e.g., collagen, gelatin, etc.,) having biocompatibility, a synthetic high polymer material (e.g., partial hydrolyzate of PVA, polymethyl methacrylate, etc.,), their composite materials, especially collagen or gelatin is immersed in a solution of ether and crosslinked. The immersion is carried out at <=35 deg.C for 1-10hr. A medical materials useful as artificial blood vessel, artificial skin, substrate for cell culture, artificial organ of cell integration type, etc. is obtained. The crosslinking agent of this invention has no bad influence on organisms as in the case of formaldehyde.
