Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To achieve a higher detection accuracy with an accurate correction of sensor characteristics, by correcting atmospheric condition output properly according to the atmospheric humidity detected to employ the results as atmospheric calibration value, which is made to correspond correctly to the partial oxygen pressure of the atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:An air/fuel ratio detection means (a) detects the air/fuel ratio on the basis of the concentration of oxygen in the emission, an atmosphere discrimination means (b) checks to ascertain that the atmosphere governs the inside of the exhaust pipe and a humidity detection means (c) detects the humidity meeting a specified cause-effect relationship with the partial oxygen pressure of the atmosphere. A calibration value setting means (d) corrects the output of the means (a) as obtained when the inside of the exhaust pipe is governed by the atmosphere according to the humidity of the atmosphere to be set as atmospheric calibration value. On the basis of the atmospheric calibration value, a correction means (e) corrects the output of the means (a) to calculate the air/fuel ration. This enables accurate correction of sensor characteristics thereby elevating the detection accuracy.
