Modified interleukin-2
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:A modified interleukine-2, having amino groups of interleukin-2 linked to the terminal reactive groups of polyethylene glycol, useful for treating cancer or viral infection and having improved stability in the living body. CONSTITUTION:A modified interleukin-2 which is a conjugate, capable of holding the activity of interleukin-2 (hereinafter abbreviated to IL-2) and formed by amide bonds between amino groups of the IL-2 and carboxyl groups of polyethylene glycol having terminal hydroxymethyl groups oxidized into the carboxyl groups or formed by linking the terminal hydroxymethyl groups to terminal reactive groups of the polyethylene glycol having oxidized or unoxidized terminal hydroxymethyl groups to amino groups of the IL-2 through a crosslinking agent. The IL-2 is capable of exhibiting the activity by linking to a receptor on T cells, but the modified IL-2 is capable of imparting the stability to the IL-2 while holding the above-mentioned activity.
