Manufacture of composite metallic wire

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To manufacture continuously a composite metallic wire of high quality by a simple device, by oxidizing the surface of a core wire by heating it and reducing successively the produced oxide by passing the wire through the inside of fine metallic powder having reducing property before drawing it by a die, in manufacturing a composite metallic wire. CONSTITUTION:A metallic wire 1 such as a steel wire is heated by passing it through a heating furnace 4 to form a thin oxidized layer on its surface. The heated wire 1 to be used as a core wire, is passed through the inside of metallic powder having reducing property such as aluminum powder consisting of 63- 420mu particle size to reduce the oxidized layer on the surface of core wire with the aid of aluminum. Thus the surface of core wire is formed into a state easily adhesive to the aluminum powder to draw the wire by a die 3. The die 3 having a diam. of 75-125% the diam. of core wire is used. Thus a composite metallic wire constituted of a steel core wire and an aluminum coating layer having uniform thickness and excellent adhesive force is easily obtained.
