Production of polymer composition containing radical polymerization initiator

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition which can give a variety of modified products inexpensively by the industrially simplest process and an easy operation, by contacting a polymer with a gaseous radical polymerization initiator. CONSTITUTION:A radical polymerization initiator having a vapor pressure >=about 5mm.Hg and preferably being normally liquid, such as dicumyl peroxide or t-butyl peroxyacetate, is vaporized by heating at normal pressure or a reduced pressure. 100pts.wt. polymer to be modified (e.g., polypropylene or polymethyl methacrylate) is allowed to adsorb, by contact, about 0.001-20pts.wt. vaporized initiator to obtain the purpose polymer composition. The produced polymer composition can be easily graft-modified with a vinyl monomer or the like.
