Preparation of shape memory alloy

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To easily obtain a shape memory alloy having accurate component ratio and having a stable transformation temp., by applying plastic processing to a billet formed by combining alloys or metals each easily processable by molding. CONSTITUTION:In a shape memory alloy such as a Cu-Zn-Al system, a brass rod 1, an Al-rod 3 and a copper rod 4 are sealed in a copper pipe 1. These base materials are used in such a componential ratio that an objective transformation temp. is obtained as the whole. This billet 7 is subjected to hot extrusion processing at a temp. not melting the Al-rod 3 and succeedingly subjected to pull- out processing to form a composite rod 6. A plurality of these composite rods 6 are again received in a copper pipe 5 to form a composite billet 8 which is, in turn, subjected to extrusion and pull-out processings to obtain a rod material with a fine composite structure. When said rod is heated, a rod material having a shape memory alloy with proper components therein is obtained. The surface copper skin of this rod material can be easily peeled off and removed.
