Abstract
Abstract 975,743. Rod joints. R. WILSON. Oct. 18, 1963 [July 19, 1962], No. 27799/62. Heading F2G. A fishing rod is formed with a number of sections 2, 6 at least two of which are joined to one another by a coupling consisting of a spigot 4 formed with a reduced diameter portion, a sleeve 7 which is flared so that the outside diameter progressively increases and is split at a number of points around the circumference thereof to present tongues 10, and a clamping ring 11 movable axially over the sleeve to engage the flared end of the sleeve. As shown, the ring 11 engages the tapered outer sleeve 8 constituting the flared end of the sleeve 7 to compress the tongues inwardly on to the spigot. In modifications, (a) the ring 11 has an oblique face and is moved axially by rotation of the ring and the engagement of that face with the oblique face of a cam ring secured to the sleeve 7, (b) the ring 11 is screwed internally and engages a screw-thread on the sleeve 7, and (c) the ring 11 is freely slidable on the sleeve 7, and there is a separate screws ring on the sleeve to move the ring 11 axially.
