Apparatus for the treatment of toxicosis in children
Abstract
Abstract 865,064. Surgical syringes. RUMANIAN MINISTRY OF HEALTH & SOCIAL WELFARE. July 18, 1957 [July 18, 1956; Nov. 8, 1956], No. 22846/57. Class 81 (2). Apparatus for introducing liquids into the stomach and intestine and exhausting liquid and gas therefrom comprises a support carrying two vacuum vessels, each having provision for the connection of a separate catheter and a common vacuum producing means, and each having valves to enable different reduced pressures to be produced in the two vessels. A stomach catheter 1<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 1) is connected by a three-way cock 2<SP>1</SP> with a sample tube 6<SP>1</SP> and end of a vessel 3<SP>1</SP> in which a vacuum may be produced by a syringe 17<SP>1</SP>. Similarly, an intestinal catheter 10<SP>1</SP> is connected by a second three-way cock 11<SP>1</SP> with a sample tube 14<SP>1</SP> and one end a vacuum vessel 12<SP>1</SP> which may also be evacuated by the syringe. The intestinal catheter 10<SP>1</SP> alternatively may be connected through the second cock with a perfusion apparatus 16<SP>1</SP>. In use the vessels 3<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP> are exhausted through valves 7<SP>1</SP>, 151 respectively by the syringe and then connected to a water manometer 19<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>1</SP>. According to the setting of the cocks and valves, the apparatus is used to supply liquid to the stomach from a syringe 9<SP>1</SP> through the first cock 2<SP>1</SP> and to the intestines from the perfusion apparatus 16<SP>1</SP> or to exhaust the stomach and intestine contents under the reduced pressure in the vacuum vessels. In an alternative construction, a stomach catheter is connected by a tube 5 (Fig. 2) with either a vacuum vessel 17, a collecting vessel 9 and a sample tube 10 or a perfusion apparatus 1. An intestinal catheter is similarly connected by a tube 27 with either a vacuum vessel 36, a collecting vessel 31 and a sample tube 32 or a second perfusion apparatus 23. As the pressure in the vacuum vessels 17, 36 is reduced by a pump 16, water rises into them from a container 19. The contents of the collecting vessels may be discharged into a vessel 13.
