Apparatus for detecting differences or changes in bodies by capacitance measurement
Abstract
Abstract 842,863. Linear dimension gauges. MACHTS, L. June 4, 1956, No. 17260/56. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XXXVI] Test electrodes of apparatus for measuring capacitance characteristics of a human or animal body may be of pointed form 12 with handle 17 and a micrometer extensible measuring-rod 14 (Fig. 2), determining distance from the body surface, or of flat form incorporating a capacitance plate 15 (Fig. 3) with a housing 18 enclosing a coiled spring extensible measuring tape 19 lockable by detent lever 20, with an inscribed scale readable through window 22. Alternatively (Fig. 4) the flat electrode assembly may incorporate an optical rangefinder wherein a point light source 26 behind a central aperture 32 of the electrode illuminates the body surface at right-angles, and also a rotary mirror 29 fixed to the assembly, which is pivoted for coincidence of the light spots from aperture 32 and the mirror at the body surface; a scale indicating the distance as a measure of mirror rotation.
