Abstract

Abstract In an X-ray detectable swab the detectable element comprises a strip of woven or nonwoven fabric coated with a thermoplastic polymer incorporating X-ray opaque material. The strip is preferably made from parallel-laid bonded cellulosic fibres and is made to adhere to the swab by heating, so as to soften the thermoplastic polymer. Suitable coating materials are polyvinyl chloride, ethyl phthalyl and ethyl glycollate and these are loaded with barium sulphate.
