Improvements in or relating to adhesive bonding
Abstract
Abstract Polythene composition strands for bonding together polyethylene sheets comprise polyethylene, isobutylene polymeric material and hydrocarbon resinous material. The isobutylene polymeric material may be rubbery polyisobutylene or an isobutylene-diolefin copolymer, e.g. 98 per cent isobutylene with 2 per cent isoprene. Specified hydrocarbon resinous materials are polymerized rosin, polyterpenes, e.g. beta-pinene polymer, the resinous polymerization products obtained by catalytic polymerization of mixed unsaturated monomers from cracked petroleum, and the resin from Utah resin-bearing coal described in U.S.A. Specification 2,461,552. Other materials such as very fine mineral fillers, e.g. calcium silicate, carbon black, vulcanized oil (factice), phenolic resins and resin-maleic anhydride reaction products, antioxidants such as an alkylated phenol and plasticisers such as triethylene glycol di-2-ethyl butyrate may also be present.
