Apparatus for measuring the load on axial thrust bearings 10 (Fig. 1) comprises a sleeve 11 with radially projecting end flanges 12, 13, located in the direction of the thrust, a group of electric resistance strain gauges 22 &c. being' fixed to the inner and outer cylindrical surfaces of the sleeve and connected in bridge measuring circuits so that the stress and strain on the inner and outer surfaces of the sleeve 11 may be determined..
