Abstract
Abstract 717,850. Dental air douches. PELLKOFER, J. Jan. 14, 1952 [Jan. 13, 1951; Dec. 5, 1951], No. 1071/52. Class 81(2) A warm air douche for preventing a difference in temperature between a dental drill and the tooth being treated comprises a sleeve for attachment to a dental handpiece, through which gas can flow, and enclosing a heating resistance. The degree of heating is adjusted by an external rheostat and control of the current may be associated with the drill motor switch. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the heating coil 3 is mounted inside a ceramic tube to avoid external heating and gas passes through from a tube 7 to a nozzle 2 adjacent to the drill 8. A pivot 5 may be provided, so arranged that the gas supply is cut off when the nozzle is turned back away from the drill, and there may also be a pressure sensitive switch to cut off the current on gas failure. In a modification, (see Fig. 2, not shown), the incoming gas is initially directed between the heater and its outer casing so as to maintain the latter cool. In this arrangement, also, provision is made for detaching the heater and nozzle as a unit so that another of different shape may be substituted and the nozzle may be of ring shape so as to surround the drill.
