Abstract

Abstract 714,638. Ventilating greenhouses. WOEHR, A. March 28, 1952 [Aug. 8, 1951], No. 8045/52. Class 137 A greenhouse is provided with fixed glazing and ventilation is effected by the provision of ducts 5 at the gable ends and possibly one or more intermediate ducts 6 for the discharge of air from the greenhouse, fresh air being admitted through openings 10 in the wall 1. Flap valves are preferably provided for the inlets 10 and.the ducts 5 and 6, and the ducts 6 may have horizontal extensions at their lower ends. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2 a fan 13 is provided at the base of a duct 5 and the speed of the fan may be controlled by a thermostat or alternatively the valves in the ducts 5 may be thermostatically controlled, in this case the fan if provided is switched off when the valves are closed. An air intake 21 with a valve 22 admits fresh air and a conduit 19 joining into the intake 21 enables air in the greenhouse to be recirculated. A fan 20 is provided at the base of the conduit 21 and air passes heating and cooling elements 17 and 18 before entering a distributor 14. The elements 17 and 18 are adapted to be switched on by a thermostat and humidifying means for the air supplied to the distributor may also be provided. The ventilating shafts are made of wood or other low heat conducting material or have double sheet metals with insulation. In a multispan greenhouse the air from the various positions of ventilation may be exhausted into a common ventilating shaft.
