Abstract
Abstract 699,256. Eddy-current brakes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 15, 1951 [Jan. 31, 1951], No. 2447/51. Class 35. An eddy current brake comprises a steel cylindrical rotor 1 having an enlarged slotted portion 5 at its centre and a stator including two discs 7 having axially projecting parts 8 in proximity of the rotor portion 5. When the current in the stator coil 11 is increased to a certain value, the rotor cylindrical part becomes saturated with the result that the flux passes from the stator parts 8 to the rotor projecting part 5, thus magnetically locking rotor and stator.
