Improvements in or relating to end seals for electric cables
Abstract
Abstract 663,233. Cable sleeves. PYROTENAX, Ltd. Jan. 16, 1950 [March 1, 1949], No. 5556/49. Class 36. An end seal for an electric cable comprises a short metallic pot or cylinder D formed integrally with or secured to the end of the cable sheath A, the outer end of the cylinder projecting beyond the end of the cable and containing a deformable insulating filling E which embraces the cable cores B and which is forced towards the end F of the cable insulation C by progressively compressing the cylinder D on to the filling E, starting at or near the outer end of the cylinder. The cylinder D may be compressed by making annular or helical grooves G therein, starting at the outer end. This makes internal ribs H which impress the filling E. A compressible packing of uncured thermosetting insulating material which may subsequently be cured to a rubber-like consistency, may be inserted between the cable end and the filling E. The filling E may consist of polytetrafluoroethylene and silicone rubber may be used for the packing. Specifications 614,516, 614,517 and 645,797 are referred to.
