Abstract
Abstract 649,398. Transformers and inductances. DUBILIER CONDENSER CO. (1925), Ltd. (Dubilier, W.). Aug. 11, 1948, No. 21189. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXXVI, XL (b) and XL (c)] A combined inductance and capacitor unit comprises one or more electrically-insulating bodies at least one of which consists of a magnetic ceramic material formed by firing a mixture of iron oxide with a ceramic clay and having the conducting elements in the form of metallic coatings on at least two surfaces of the insulating bodies. A tubular former A of the magnetic ceramic material has applied to its outer surface by any well known method a metallic conductor A<SP>1</SP> in the form of a spiral to constitute an inductance coil and also one of the capacitor electrodes. Another conductor A<SP>2</SP> having a longitudinal gap A<SP>3</SP> to prevent short-circuiting is applied to the inner surface of the magnetic body to form the other (in this case, continuous) electrode of the capacitor. Alternatively the inner electrode may be applied to an inner member B<SP>2</SP>, Fig. 3, which member is preferably of the magnetic material so that movement of the member provides variation of the inductance and the capacitance. Various embodiments are described in which one or both conducting members are spirals, in which conducting members are placed on three surfaces of the magnetic members, in which two spirals may be placed on the outside of a magnetic member so as to form a tuned transformer arrangement and in which the magnetic member is in the form of a flat plate.
