Shaft construction
Abstract
Abstract A fishing rod is made by embedding under tension in a hard adhesive, a plurality of longitudinally extending fibres of high tensile strength, e.g. glass. In a modification the fibres and adhesive may form a skin over a core. The core may be a hollow tubular member. The cross-sectional area of the core or rod may vary along its length. The thickness of the skin may vary about the periphery of the core or be omitted entirely in certain areas. In one construction the large end of the rod may have a hollow core, the central portion a solid core, and the tip no core. The core may be made from light wood or hardened foamed resin. The hard adhesive may be a polymerizable unsaturated polyester or a diallyl ester.
