Improvements relating to indicating and recording apparatus
Abstract
Abstract 621,752. Cathode-ray oscillographs. SCOLES, G. J., and METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. July 9, 1946, No. 20505. [Class 37] [Also in Groups XXXVIII and XL (b)] To investigate a cycle of information, a time base synchronous therewith renders apparatus operative at selected positions along the time base so that information occurring at the time instants corresponding to the selected positions may be indicated for recording. The cycle of information a, Fig. 1, comprises e.g. six pulses 1 ... 6, whose magnitudes correspond to six items ; a synchronising pulse b is used at the receiver to produce a time base oscillation c at A, Fig. 2, which is applied to devices B1 ... B6 which produce trigger pulses at different levels of the time base ; thus, e.g. as the time base attains the level X, X<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, device B3, Fig. 2 produces a trigger pulse d, Fig. 1 ; these trigger pulses are applied to render cathode-ray tubes C1, C2, C3, Fig. 2, operative, so that information pulse 1, Fig. 1, is shown on C1, information pulse 2 on C2, information pulses 2, 3 and 4 on tube C3 simultaneously, while the trigger pulse from B6 is shown as controlling a gating circuit 6 to allow only information pulse 6 to actuate a meter R. A photographic record on a moving film may be made of the cathode-ray traces, and where more than one trace occurs on the same tube, they may be by switching off the trigger devices B1 ... B6 in a known sequence to produce gaps in the traces. Further time bases may be applied to the cathode-ray tubes to displace consecutive signals of the same item. Several items of information may be combined, e.g. added, for display on a single tube.
