Abstract
Abstract 595,346. Cooling bearings; lubricating. CONSTANT, H., SMITH, D. M., BAUMANN, F. E., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. May 7, 1941, No. 5952. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (iii)] A housing for a ball or roller bearing of a high speed internal-combustion turbine or gas compressor is sealed against entry of gas and is cooled and lubricated by air or gas laden with oil mist, conveyed and drained by pipes 29, 32. The housing, formed by a sleeve 12 and cover 26, is surrounded by a liquid-tight chamber 33 provided with inlet and outlet pipes 34, 35 for cooling liquid. Labyrinth packing 16-18, 37 prevents hot air or gases from reaching the housing, and the space 39 between packings 16, 17 receives cooling air from pipe 38, the air flowing to space 41 and pipe 40 to atmosphere. Specifications 582,082, [Group XXVIII], and 595,347 [Group XXVI], are referred to.
