Abstract 579,946. Finishing fabrics. COLLIDGE, A. E., DAWES; E. C., GILBERT, T. A., and KLINGER MANUFACTURING- CO., Ltd. May 2, 1944, No. 8296. [Class 42 (i)] [Also in Group XI] Knitted goods made from thermoplastic yarns are' plasticised by putting them on' formers each of which provides a continuous surface possessing black-body characteristics and subjecting them to externally applied radiant heat. Plasticising and trimming of the goods may be carried out in one operation, either before or after they have been dyed. The formers, which are shaped to correspond with the knitted goods, may be made of aluminium coloured black by anodising, and are mounted upon an endless band 11 travelling between two banks of infra-red lamps 14. Alternatively only one bank may be provided, and reflectors are provided at one side of the band 11. Shields 15 of transparent plastic material may be provided between the lamps and the goods to be treated to provide a space in which the humidity of the air can be regulated.
