Improvements in or relating to the coating of the interiors of hollow articles with polythene compositions
Abstract
Abstract 566,745. Polythene coating. WORRALL, G. W., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 25, 1943, No. 10287. [Class 95] A heated hollow article containing a melted composition comprising mainly normally solid polythene is inverted and the excess polythene drained out, leaving a coating of the composition on the inner surface of the hollow article. 5-10 times more polythene is melted than is to form the lining. It is preferred to shut out air during the melting operation by employing a cover, and during the draining operation by resting the inverted article on a tray. The hollow article may be a metal drum. The temperature of heating mentioned is 140‹ C. Instead of polythene alone, minor proportions of dyes, pigments, fillers and/or modifying agents, e.g. polyisobutylene, may be used in conjunction with polythene. Specifications 544,359 and 551,339 are referred to.
