Improvements in colour television
Abstract
Abstract 562,168. Cathode-ray tubes. BAIRD, J. L. July 25, 1942, No. 10416. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode-ray tube for colour television has two screens 2, 3, each giving a different colour when scanned by an associated electron beam from guns 5, 6 and so placed that the coloured images are superposed when viewed from either side. In a modification for three colours, one side is divided by ridges into two screens 9, 10, Fig. 2, scanned by separate guns 6, 11. The transmitter has a corresponding tube comprising a transparent conductive plate or mesh 14, Fig. 3, bearing on either side mosaic screens 12, 13 sensitive to a different colour and scanned in a suitable sequence by beams from guns 5, 6. In a transmitter of the light-spot type the tubes of Figs. 1 and 2 may be used as light sources. According to the Provisional Specification, a light filter may be interposed between the screens so as to impart the desired colour characteristic to one screen when viewed through the filter.
