An improved knurling head
Abstract
Abstract 555,237. Knurling. TRUMBLES, J., and HILLMAN, W. C. May 14, 1942, No. 6541. [Class 83 (iv)] A knurling-head, more particularly for use in the turrets of capstan lathes, has a hollow shank integral with a flange b on which is adjustably mounted a ring c the inner surface of which consists of three or more cam surfaces d. Levers f pivoted to the flange at e carry knurls g and a single spring i arranged as shown maintains pins h carried by the levers in contact with the cam surfaces. To provide a large range without unduly steep cam surfaces the pins are adjustably mounted on the levers, according to the Provisional Specification, by being screwed therein. The cam ring is locked, after adjustment, by a screw l. In a modification the cams are dispensed with and ring c is integral with the flange b and carries screws acting on the backs of the levers f.
