Abstract
Abstract 544,905. Hollow-rubber articles. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., TAYLOR, S. D., and MURPHY, E. A. Feb. 17, 1941, No. 2118. [Classes 70 and 87 (ii)] Hollow rubber articles such as balloons, football bladders, inner tubes for tyres, inflatable toys &c., are formed 'from rubber dispersions, by forming a layer of the dispersion, causing the layer to gel, treating portions of the surface to render them non-adherent, covering the layer with a second gelled layer, subjecting to. pressure to cause the untreated portions to unite and drying and vulcanizing the united layers. The united layers may be inflated into a mould of the shape of the article to be produced and drying effected while inflated, vulcanization being effected after deflation. The articles may be produced in a flat circular tray having a tube extending downwards from its centre within which is mounted a metal rod to define an annular cavity for the formation of an inflating stem. The surface may be treated to render it non-adherent by applying wet blotting-paper or " Cellophane " (Registered Trade Mark), or by spraying with soap solution or zinc stearate in alcoholic solution.
