Abstract
Abstract 543,733. Rod and tube couplings. M'CAW, S. E. (Larymore, W., and Kelly, R. D.). Sept. 13, 1941, No. 11746. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Groups XXIII and XXIV] A coupling for tubes, rods, and shafts, or for connecting drill bits or sockets to drill rods, comprises a spigot 10 formed with a groove in which is placed a rubber or like ring 12 which is compressed within the tapered end 15 of a socket 13 the insertion being facilitated by the use of lubricant. The socket may also be provided with a groove to receive the ring. The tapered part of the socket may be removable from the main part. For coupling pipes or tubes, the two ends to be connected are fitted with the rubber rings and inserted into the opposite and tapered ends of a sleeve, the ends of the pipes abutting within the sleeve.
