Improvements in or connected with non-return valves for liquids
Abstract
Abstract 532,241. Non-return valves. HAM, BAKER & CO., Ltd., BENCE, E. H., and MORGAN, E. I. May 18, 1939, No. 14842. [Class 135] A hinged non-return valve is urged towards its seat by a spring-loaded plunger co-operating with a cam surface on the valve or on a hinged member co-operating with the valve. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the valve member has a pair of spaced lugs secured to a pivot pin 3 by set-screws 14, said pin being rotatably mounted in bosses in the casing and held against endwise movement by plugs screwed into the casing. Loosely mounted on the pin 3 between the lugs is a member 7 having an arm 7b bearing on the back of the valve member and a cam surface 7a engaged by the spring-loaded plunger 10a. The plunger 10a is slidably mounted in a tubular fitting secured to the valve cover 8 by nuts 15 and a flange 9b. The outer end of the fitting is internally threaded to receive an adjustable abutment 12 for the spring 11 and is closed by a screwed cap 13. The valve may rotate on the hinge pin and the part 7 may be integral with the valve member. According to the Provisional Specification an external tension spring may be secured between an arm on the valve pivot and an adjustable eye-bolt on a bracket on the casing. A plate spring may engage the cam surface or a flat spiral spring may be mounted on the valve spindle. The valve may be loaded by a volute spring mounted on a screwed hinge spindle co-operating with a reciprocating nut motion.
