Abstract

Abstract 512,255. Doors for buildings. ROUSE, E. E. March 19, 1938, No. 8518. [Class 20 (iii)] A door is formed with a cavity housing a piston pump which is used for the purpose of supplying air to an inflatable tube fitted in the channelled edges of the door, the tube when inflated serving to seal the entire space between the edges of the door and the surrounding frame. The door shown has a peripheral recess 13 housing the inflatable tube 14 and fitted with a resilient covering strip 15 against which the tube bears when inflated. Inflation is effected by means of a pump housed within the hollow mounting of the door. The pump comprises two. cylinders 21, 22, communicating with the tube, and fitted with pistons 23 and 24 the rods of which are connected to a dummy piston 33. A cable leads from the dummy piston to a handle which, when pulled, raises the pistons to inflate the tubes. The weight of the dummy piston returns the pistons to their lowermost position when the handle is released. A non-return valve is fitted between the cylinders and the tube, and a press button fitted to the door is provided to open this valve to bring about deflation. The Provisional Specification describes also a construction in which the tube has an inlet valve housed in one of the door stiles and so arranged that a pump can be readily attached thereto.
