Improvements in the electrodeposition of nickel
Abstract
Abstract 506,332. Electrodeposition of nickel. PRISTON, H. R., and GARDAM, G. E. Sept. 23, 1937, No. 25795. [Class 41] Nickel is-deposited in a smooth, lustrous form from a bath containing an organic sulphonate in addition to a colloidal substance, such as gelatin, dextrin or lysalbic acid. Mono-sulphonates are particularly suitable, the sodium sulphonate of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, naphthalene, isopropymaphthalene, triphenylpentane, allylnaphthalene, tetrahydronaphthalene, benzoic acid, chlorbenzene and pyridine being specified. The pH value of the electrolyte may be buffered by the addition of boric, acetic, formic or adipic acids or their salts. The nickel is preferably present in the form of nickel sulphate, a chloride, e.g. of nickel, sodium or potassium being added to facilitate anode corrosion. Examples of baths are given.
