[Class 40 (v)] In order to avoid the pro. duction of unwanted frequencies, a crystal adapted to vibrate in accordance with the thickness mode and wherein the transverse dimension is large compared with the thickness, has opposed faces which are dished, Fig. 1. When the crystal is rectangular, the faces are preferably parts of the two sheets of a hyperboloid and when circular, parts of a hyperboloid of revolution. The edges may be bevelled, Fig. 3, the edge between the two bevels being utilized as the location of clamping means. Specification 479,637 is referred to.
