Improvements in and relating to adjustable props for supporting falsework
Abstract
Abstract 500,085. Supports for falsework. ADRIA SOC. ANON., and DREYFUS. I. March 18, 1938, No. 8448. [Class 20 (ii)] Relates to adjustable props for supporting falsework, of the kind comprising two tubular member sliding one within the other, the inner member being maintained ir position by means of a transverse bolt or cotter which bears upon a sleeve nut engaging with an external thread on the outer member. According to the invention, the cotter or bolt passes through a socket which is rotatably mounted upon the upper end of the sleeve nut. In the construction shown, the prop comprises outer and inner tubular members 1, 15, a socket 11, and a nut 4. The nut engages with the upper screw-threaded portion oj the member 1 and is formed with sleeves 7, 8 for protecting the screw-thread, and with a pivoted operating handle 6. A flange 9 on the upper end of the sleeve 8 is embraced by a downwardly projecting sleeve 13 on the socket Pins 12, projecting inwardly from the sleeve and engaging beneath the flange 9, hold the socket in position and a recess 10 is formed in the flange for the passage of these pins. A cotter 16 passes through diagonally opposite recesses 14 in the socket and through a selected pair of a number of pairs of recesses 17 disposed longitudinally of the upper tubular member 15. In operation, the required overall length of the prop is approximately determined by means of the cotter and then accurately adjusted by rotating the nut 4. In a modification, a resilient split ring having its ends projecting through the sleeve 13 is employed for interconnecting the socket and the nut and, in a further construction, a two-part ring, screwed to the sleeve, is used for this purpose.
