Improvements in and relating to applicator electrodes for electro-therapeutic purposes
Abstract
Abstract 498,527. Electro - therapeutic apparatus; buckles. SCHOLL MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and NORRIS, G. THORNTON-. July 16, 1937, No. 19765. [Class 81 (ii)] [Also in Group VII] An electrode for electrotherapeutic treatment comprises a plate 1, preferably of tin, having secured thereto, preferably by solder of lower melting point than that of the plate, one element 2 of a plug and socket connection 6 for a lead 7, the connection being rendered self-cleaning as by forming the plug or the socket with sharp-edged grooves 6a. The plate 1 also has an absorbent covering 8 detachably secured by engagement of a stud 4 on the plate with a hole 9 in the covering. Preferably the covering is in the form of a bag, the two sides of which may be of different thicknesses, or which may have several layers 8a, 8b, 8c forming two or more pockets whereby according to the pocket chosen, a single or a multilayer cover may be interposed between the plate and the patient. An aperture 9 may be formed in each layer permitting reversal of the cover. The stud 4 is formed on a domed base 5 soldered to the rear side of the plate. The electrode may be secured to the body by a rubber or other strap 11, Fig. 2, having holes 12 engageable over the stud 4 and fastened by a quick-release buckle comprising two bails 13, 14, hinged together at 15, one end of the strap being passed through both bails and around the free side of one in a loop secured by a stud 16 passed through two of the holes 12, the other end of the strap being passed through the other bail and being held by friction with the first end until released by lifting the upper bail.
