Improvements in or relating to polarisation filters
Abstract
Abstract 496,329. Vehicle antidazzle screens. ZEISS IKON AKT.-GES. Nov. 16, 1937, Nos. 31523 and 31524. Convention dates, Dec. 31, 1936 and Jan. 2, 1937. [Class 103 (ii)] [Also in Groups XX and VIII] A polarization filter, particularly for vehicle windscreens, comprises polarizing material mounted between a transparent carrier and a transparent cover, a part only of the total area of the filter being capable of polarization, and there being a gradual change-over between the polarizing and non- polarizing parts. The Figure shows a screen comprising non-splinterproof glass plates 1 enclosing a splinterproof sheet 2 which is capable of polarization over only part of its area, the change-over between the polarizing and non-polarizing areas being rendered gradual by causing the crystalline particles in the polarizing area to become less and less unidirectional at the edges of the area. In a modification, a foil capable of polarization over part only of its area, with gradual change-over, is applied over the whole or part only of a glass plate, and is protected by applying to it a second plate of glass or like substance or a liquid coating which hardens on setting.
