Improvements in deaf-aids for use in cinema auditoriums or the like
Abstract
Abstract 495,171. Sets for deaf persons; inductive signalling. BALBI, C. M. R. May 2, 1938, No. 13096. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] An electrical deaf-aid set, for use in kinema auditoriums and the like, comprises a pick-up coil in addition to a microphone and is provided with a change-over switch so that the output of the pick-up coil or of the microphone may be fed to the reproducer. As shown, the set comprises a casing 1 containing a thermionic amplifier, a microphone 2 disposed behind a grille 3 and a pick-up coil 7 wound around the lower part of the casing. Currents are induced in the coil 7 by a magnetic field produced by wires arranged for example along the backs of seats or around the auditorium. The receiver 4 is connected by a plug 5 and the switch is located in a recess in the bottom of the casing. In a modification the switch has a third operative position so that the outputs of the coil and of the microphone can be fed simultaneously to the reproducer. The coil may be carried on a separate former attached to the casing which incorporates a rectifying device if the set is to be used for the reception of modulated high-frequencies.
