An improved electric supply meter
Abstract
Abstract 489,038. Recording-apparatus MATHER, J. B., and SHROPSHIRE IRON CO., Ltd. Jan. 19, 1937, No. 1565. [Class 106 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] A meter for recording the consumption of a commodity is provided with means for marking a record strip every time a given quantity of the commodity has been metered, the strip also having a time scale in which the distances between the graduations correspond to equal time intervals. In one form, Fig. 1, a cam 4 driven by an electricity meter operates a rod 6 every time a given quantity of energy (say 10 units) has been consumed. The rod 6 depresses a marker 10 to mark a clock-driven strip 2. Every time a larger quantity of energy (say 100 units) is consumed, another cam 5 depresses another marker to record on the clock-driven strip 2. Alternatively, the cam 5 may deflect the first marker so that every tenth mark is displaced across the strip. The cam 5 may also cause the total number of units consumed to be printed each time the said cam operates. The strip may have a time scale marked on it or may be marked at regular time intervals to provide this scale. In a further modification, Fig. 5, a disc 24 secured to the meter spindle has ten equally-spaced holes 24a which allow light to pass from a source 18 to a light-sensitive cell 19 every time the given quantity of energy is consumed. The light-sensitive cell controls apparatus which causes the energization of an electromagnet 20 to depress a marker 10 on to the clock-driven strip 2. The disc 24 has an additional hole 24b which, once in each revolution, allows light to pass to a cell 23 to cause the energization of an electromagnet 25 operating a marker 16. In place of the light-sensitive devices the electromagnets 20, 25 may be controlled by contacts on the registering spindles of the meter. Instead of using the markers shown, the record may be made by a spark. Several remote recorders may be electrically operated from a single meter.
