Improvements in oscillograph electric transient analysers
Abstract
Abstract 482,956. Oscillographs. SCOLES, G. J., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Oct. 7, 1936, No. 27271. [Class 37] [Also in Group XL] An oscillograph transient analyzer comprises a cathode ray tube including a time-sweep circuit produced by charging and discharging a condenser, a resistance across the condenser being connected in series with a discharge tube which is ignited at the end of the effective sweep, the voltage developed across the resistor being employed to extinguish the spot to prevent burning of the screen and fogging of the oscillogram. A repeating peak-voltage generator 1, which may be of the kind described in Specification 482,957, [Group XXXV], supplies positive potentials to a negatively biassed grid-controlled discharge tube 5. The time-sweep circuit is indicated at 2 and a surge generator at 3, the latter being described in Specification 482,994. The time-sweep circuit comprises a condenser 8 which is charged through a resistor 7 until the discharge tube 10 ignites and maintains steady voltage conditions. The resulting potential across resistor 11 is applied through condenser 12 to extinguish the beam. A tripping impulse from generator 1 discharges condenser 8 through the tube 5 and the discharge tube 10 is extinguished, the spot again appearing on the screen and the timesweep recommencing. To improve the linearity of the time base, the resistor 7 may be a thermionic valve.
